I was sooooo honored when Alison and Glenn asked me to be their Salvage One Chicago Wedding Photographer capture their wedding day! It is always a pleasure to see a friend get married from behind my camera lens but also a privilege to be asked by someone in the wedding industry to play such an important role in the wedding. All year we have been counting down the days until it was finally here!! My fabulous secondary photographer Jon and I started the morning off at the hotel for getting ready and fun pictures with Alison and Glenn separately. It was perfect combo of confetti poppers, champagne, beer, finger sandwiches and being surrounded by the most important people to make a wedding day begin perfectly!!
We decided to do the first look at the hotel since it was a 30 minute drive into the city and there was no other way. This would be the only time we got a few sprinkles which only means good luck for the couple. Thanks for braving it with zero complaints, it was a perfect fall location to have this special and private moment. I just adored their first look and all the emotions that came with it!
After the wedding Alison and Glen told me that they loved doing the first look. “With the way that our day was planned, we absolutely had to do this or we really would have sacrificed the style of photography we wanted for our album. It was important to us to go to at least 2-3 locations downtown and the First Look allowed us to do so with enough time in the day to fit in these stops. We also really felt like the First Look was one of the only moments we got to be alone! It was special and definitely helps to ease up the nerves for the ceremony.”
I asked Alison and Glenn what their favorite moment from the wedding day was. Alison told me her favorite moment was the ceremony. “I so worked up right before going down the aisle and then the minute that I turned the corner and saw Glenn, I was instantly calm. More composed that I ever dreamed and I really got to live in the moment and hear the words our officiant was saying as I married the love of my life. :)”
Glenn shared with me that his favorite moment from the wedding day was the First Dance. “It was the first time we got to hit the dance floor as a couple after getting married and we worked really hard the dance. We took one dance lesson and then turned to YouTube to teach ourselves just a few days before the wedding. The fact that we pulled it off was amazing!”
Glenn and Alison shared a few more tips for couples planning a wedding.
“We highly recommend spending as much time with each other the day of the wedding. There is just so much going on and taking a few moments to step back and take it all in was so important to us. We got to see everyone enjoying the various elements we planned and just bask in the moment.”
If they could do something different or change anything about the wedding day they said they would have a shorter engagement.
“Glenn and I were engaged for over two years and it was a LONG wait! I wish we would have planned in a shorter time period so we didn’t lose the hype and momentum during planning. But it all came together so well!”
I was so thrilled earlier this week to get a touching review from Alison! It brought a tear to my eye and made me remember why I LOVE what I do and feel very blessed to be able to be a photographer. Thank you so very much for such kind words. It was an honor to be your Salvage One Chicago Wedding Photographer!!
Can We Give More Than Five Stars?!
“Laura Meyer has been a close industry friend and colleagues of mine for many years and on October 6th, 2018, I had the pleasure of having her as my photographer for my own wedding! Having worked with Laura in the past I knew she was the best fit for us on our wedding day! Her everyday energetic and calm demeanor combined with the ability to assert aggressiveness when managing an extremely large bridal party etc, makes her a fantastic and well rounded wedding photographer.
Laura completed a master timeline for Glenn and I which detailed exactly what our photo plan was and what we planned to shoot in each area. This combined with our Planner’s help, allowed us to hit many photo locations and truly enjoy every moment without thinking about time or feeling rushed. I have always been so blown away by Laura’s talent as a colleague and now can say that I am truly stunned by the product as a client. We love you very much Laura, thanks for capturing our day and allowing us to relive each moment with each snapshot!”
