Taste of a Nation :: A Share Our Strength Event Chicago Photographer :: Laura Meyer

Earlier this month I was invited to be a part of the Chicago Share Our Strength’s Taste of a Nation event as the primary photography. What is Taste of the Nation? It is where Chicago’s hottest chefs, restaurants, and mixologists gather for the city’s most trend-forward culinary experience - under the guidance of Chef Mindy Segal, Chef RJ Melman and more. The theme this year was street food. This is a wonderful event, not to mention delicious, and 100% of ticket sales supports Share Our Strength’s efforts to end childhood hunger. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot for Nordstroms in Oak Brook…in of course my favorite department, Woman’s Shoes!! These are the five photos that will be featured in the in-store employee newsletter this summer….bravo to these fabulous employees, it is a great honor to be featured for outstanding service and sales!!

I am very thankful this year to be doing what I love with my life. As a way to give back to the wonderful people who make this possible I wanted to do something special this holiday season, reach out to someone in need and give the the gift of photos. Please read on below to find out what LMP is sharing this holiday season.

Happy Thanksgiving, have a safe and enjoyable weekend!!

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography — $500 worth, to be exact. Whether it’s canvas or albums, prints for Grandma, or a slideshow to watch over and over, it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $100 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

Photo Shoot: Nordstrom in Oak Brook

This week I was called by Turnstyle a design company based out of Seattle to do a photo shoot at Nordstrom at Oak Brook Shopping Cente r. The assignment, shoot candid images of the fabulous employees of the BP Department at Nordstrom. Natural light, totally natural poses…..not an easy feat, considering they have something like six different colored light bulbs showcasing the trendy and hip clothing lines. I am not allowed to use flash or stage the girls….talk about pressure:)

These Fabulous ladies are being recognized for excellence in sales and service. Selected photos will be featured in the Nordstroms in house company newsletter…but I promised the girls I would post my favorites on my blog so they could get a sneak peek….Enjoy and don’t forget to leave me some comment love!

Laura Meyer Photography is proud to announce that we have been accepted into Modern Photographers!!

Why is this important? Have you ever noticed that photography is one of the rare industries that requires no licensing or certification? Just about anyone can pick up a camera and claim to be a photographer with absolutely no experience. Unfortunately, many couples and families have been harmed by the actions of some wreckless “photographers”.

Modern Photographers was created to give those looking for artistic professionals a place to connect with qualified working visual artists. Our members have been voted on by true professionals in the industry. We require our members to:

*Maintain a proper business license (pay taxes)
*Have backup equipment in case of equipment failure during an important shoot
*Maintain a good reputation in their local community, as well as within the photography industry
*Have solid technical skills (exposure, lighting, composition, post production)
*Have a creative eye that lends itself to a modern style

If you are looking for a photographer recommended by other photographers, look no further than Modern Photographers.

Needless to say I am very excited to have been selected to become a member and excited for the launching of the sister sites featuring Kids and Seniors!!!

The Bokeh Pot

I wanted to share a new blog that I am contributing to called The Bokeh Pot. This blog was started by my friend and very talented photographer from North Carolina Crystal Genes . Laura Manzare, another talented photographer, is also a contributor.

In a nutshell, The Bokeh Pot was created to serve as a directory and event resource for the up-and-coming photographers of the wedding and portrait industry.

This blog was created with three basic goals in mind:

1. give a little extra exposure to all those talented wedding and portrait photographers who have been in business 2 years or less

2. provide a place where other photographers, new or well established, can easily find the like-minded in their own community, to help break down walls and build more friendships and support

3. provide a common place to find out about all the numerous photography related events happening

I am SUPER excited to be having an image included in the Fall/Winter 2009 edition on the national bi-annual magazine The Knot Weddings!!!! The article is on Green wedding bouquets. This image is from Kerry and Kyle’s wedding (october 2008), her bouquet was sooo beautiful. Green is my all time favorite color, I admired it so much day of…and soon it can be seen by many eyes!!
